THE EMBERWAY

2026-09-11

The Forgedom has never been entirely separate from other worlds.

When the First Forge shattered, the force of its destruction left scars along the boundaries between realms. Most closed as quickly as they appeared. Others remained faintly present, opening without warning and allowing beings such as Shadeborn to fall accidentally from one world into another.

Forgemaster Prime studied these scars from the ruins of the First Forge. Unable to restore Concordance alone, he began searching beyond the Forgedom for people who might possess the judgment, restraint, courage, and capacity for connection required to follow the path of a Master Forger.

Using the remaining power of the First Forge, Prime fashioned a way to stabilize certain fractures for a brief and deliberate crossing. He called this passage the Emberway.

The Emberway does not open simply for warriors or the powerful. It responds to people whose actions reveal the spark of a Forger. Courage, compassion, sacrifice, imagination, perseverance, and an unwavering sense of duty can cause that spark to resonate across the boundary between worlds.

Some hear the call through music, competition, medicine, invention, or quiet acts of kindness. Others hear it while moving toward danger so that someone else may escape it. The Emberway offers a path, but it does not force anyone to cross. The choice must be made freely.

Those who enter arrive with their identities, memories, clothing, knowledge, and tools intact. During the crossing, living Forge power tempers what they carry so it can endure the extraordinary conditions of the Forgedom. A firefighter's equipment, a healer's instruments, an inventor's tools, or an artist's work may emerge changed in form, but not in purpose.

No two passages appear in precisely the same way. An opening may form within a column of smoke, across the reflection of an ambulance window, beneath the lights of a crowded arena, through the sparks of a workshop, or between the pages of an unfinished story.

Those who cross the Emberway do not arrive as Master Forgers. They arrive as candidates with the potential to begin that path. They must still form bonds, demonstrate restraint, learn to guide living Forge power, and prove themselves through experience.

The people of the Forgedom have a saying for those who answer the Emberway's call:

'They were Forgers long before the Forge found them.'

Shadeborn crossed through an uncontrolled fracture. The Emberway is Prime's later attempt to stabilize such a passage deliberately.
