LORE
The Mossscale does not hide within the Gloamwood. Given enough time, the Gloamwood grows upon it. Moss, ferns, and small flowering plants take root between its scales, changing with the surrounding vegetation as the Forgekin moves into new territory. When completely still, even experienced trackers mistake it for a fallen branch or moss-covered stone. Detection instruments are equally unreliable; the first focused scan often returns nothing but readings from the surrounding forest. Mossscales spend much of the day absorbing warmth beneath breaks in the canopy. Though generally calm, they defend their resting grounds with a powerful Tail Whip capable of cracking stone and sending larger predators tumbling into the undergrowth. We successfully observed one specimen for three hours before it moved. Our sketches indicate that it had been watching us for at least two days.
