**Clobberclaw - The Last Fence Post** *Excerpt from an Emberbound field report, Rootrest Orchard* The orchard keepers warned us not to move the leaning fence post at the edge of the grazing fields. We assumed it marked a boundary. By midday, we understood it marked a scratching spot. Clobberclaw arrived without hurry, its broad, hammer-shaped head brushing the lower branches as it passed. It inspected our newly straightened post, pushed it back to its former angle, and settled against it with a satisfied grunt. The keeper beside me said this had been happening for years. For most of the afternoon, the bull grazed peacefully among the field margins. Smaller Forgekin wandered close without troubling it. Our survey party received considerably more scrutiny, particularly when one member tried to hurry a lingering grazer through the gate. Clobberclaw stopped chewing. It placed itself between the traveler and the smaller creature, lowered its head, and waited. When the traveler reached forward again, one short thrust struck the gate hard enough to tear its hinges loose. There was no pursuit. Once we stepped back, the bull returned to its grass. We repaired the gate before leaving. The keeper recommended wider hinges and better manners. The fence post remains crooked.
